Afghanistan. ★/⊙. Wonderful collection of exhibition standard, representing one man's lifetime work, including both stamps and postal history, well integrated and written up. Beginning with the early tiger issues of 1871 onwards, there are a dozen or so here with better mint as well as used, for the Kingdom of Kabul with different papers from thin wove and medium laid, also 3 scarce first tiger covers. Then the 1876/77 tiger types, again mint and used with over 30 imperf examples mainly cut to shape cancels, as well as 4 covers usual segmented types, then on to the 1880/90 again with 17 examples including cross pmks, segmented, negative seal, manuscript, non segmented from the abasi to rupee denominations. This is accompanied by same issue with an extraordinary 16 imperf covers, manuscript star cancels, all tied and no doubt rare material, as written up as such, colour postmarks range from purple to mauve, to black and red, even orange, all of which would benefit from modern scholarship today, as this was last collected in the early 1960s. Collection further unfolds to 1891/92 types inc block of 4 registrations, different pelure papers, lithograph printing with at least 3 dozen stamps here inc superb 1891 1 abasi with well struck red cancel on the back of a cover, etc through to 20th century, also with a very good range of the large parcel posts from the 3 shahi, 1 kran, 1 + 2 rupees both perf and imperf, 1 stamp even with the fixing screws imprints on top and side! So much more here inc tete-beche, interpanneau, imperf betweens, both imperf and perforated proofs, etc. In sum, an outstanding old time collection, offered intact as received.
