Britain. Used. If quality is the hallmark of your collecting penny reds, then this outstanding accumulation, housed in five volumes is absolutely recommended. Primarily but by no means exclusively, penny red stars – and there must be about 1000 per book, in the order of 5000 stamps. It is interesting apart from the tip-top quality to consider the methodology of this collector, apart from the quality he sought. From what we can see, it is postmarks, rather than sheet reconstructions – however the expert in this field will no doubt see other different dimensions as well. Such a good old fashioned holding of the line engraved issues is seldom available today, it is offered intact, as received. The catalogue must be in the order £100,000, an average of £20 per stamp, substantially more however for the stars. Show less

Some of the better countries inc Cyprus with first wmk to 18pi and second wmk 1924 to 45pi, Rhodesia admiral heads both perf 14 and 15 inc imprints on 4d and 5d, Seychelles 1912 2rps to 5cts and further defins to 1rp 50 on to the 1921/4 well worth investigating, again to the high values, Turks and Caicos to 3/- and lots of interesting war tax o/ps, Samoa with admirals 2/- and 3/-, as well as a few long defins, Palestine inc the key value the 90pr, useful Sarawak, great New Zealand with an extensive study of different perfs, Malaya, Transjordan when part of BC to 200mils, lots of British Africa through to Zanzibar. Time does not permit further description, other to say all the colours here are rich, hardly exposed to light and of course unchecked for varieties that were not considered at the time of collecting, many decades ago. It is therefore highly likely that there will be a good number of finds to make on SG 'a' and 'b' numbers. A very substantial holding of thousands of stamps, mint and used, particularly in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland which is very extensive, similarly the Dominion of Canada from early QV through to the small heads/large heads, the Christmas issue, widow heads to 20 cents, Quebec to 20 cents high value, substantial EDII/KGV…and then the whole accumulation starts again! As before, very strong in classics, here by the hundreds, for the most part chronologically ordered but not precisely. While some have been identified by SG, any prices corresponding to that are way out of date. We have no doubt that this outstanding range – which has the potential for several collections – will catalogue way in excess of the equivalent of 150,000 SEK. Condition as to be expected is mixed, however there are some very pleasant surprises, particularly amongst the mint multiples of KGV revenues never hinged etc. Ideal for a dealer to replenish stocks or any collector looking for a big project on BNA. Two airmail covers, KGV, one being combination/Cyrpus 2 ½pi with GB KGV ½d arrival block cypher – the other cover is even scarcer, this being the 1932 England/Cyprus first airmail from Southend on Sea to Limassol, however limited to a very short airmail service with only a few covers extant, full of postmarks, manuscript markings, cachets, etc. There are four stamps here, three of which are different GB KGV block cypher, making the 3 ½d correct rate of the time. The first page starts with Ceres heads through to 1fr carmine x2, as well as 'B' under neck 1852 - this is the start of a parallel mint and used collection. Highlights inc 2x 20cts unused, as well as superb appearance 15cts green used yet with a 3mm tear., both of the 1fr are 3 margins and the rest, mostly, are 4 margined inc a superb 25cts and pair of 1852s huge margins. This page alone has a min cat of €6000. The second page of Napoleon Empire, perf and imperf types, many 4 margined inc a probable MNH (!) 25cts Mi #14, as well as a 5cts Mi #11, although this has matted gum and then a 4 margined 80cts Mi #16, original gum but probably the least expensive shade Mi #16c, the 'mattrosa'. The min cat of this page alone is again well over €6000. The third page has 2x 5fr Napoleons with the usual security thins, as well as unused perf type 1ct (x2 shades), 2cts, 4cts, 20cts (x2 shades), 30cts, 40cts and all of the same used and the Ceres perf Repub Mi #33 to #35 mint/unused. The min cat on this page is again well over €6000. Finally in the imperfs, there are the Bordeaux with 4 margins 1ct, 2cts, 4cts, 30cts and 80cts unused, all sound appearance, rich colours + used to the 80cts with the 30cts, 40cts and 80cts all 4 margins, the catalogue on this page is €4000+. Then further studies mint and used of the Repub Ceres types of 1871/75 with a good range of unused and used to 80cts, this page with a min cat over €2000 - min total €24,000++ for the first 5 pages. Then an extensive range of 'peace and commerce' types much identified by Yvert with values mint and used to 5fr, just the 'B' under types comes to, yet again, €6000. Then the second type housed in a further 6 pages, well filled, with at least €4000 on this section alone. Then the postage dues imperfs inc mint 10cts x2, both types of the 15cts, then the 60cts blue, through to the next 3 partial sets up to 1935 with most values represented and no doubt a very high cat here too. Then follows 20th century inc a good range of Mouchon and Merson types inc etc key value 2fr MLH, all part of a well filled parallel mint and used, from this point onwards. This applies, for example, to the first sower definitive and virtually all defins thereafter with occasional MNH and of course superb used, leading on to the more obvious 1923 Bordeaux M&U, first m/s of 1935 again M&U, (these 2 alone cat €4400), the heart of the Strasbourg MNH, the Le Havre M&U, all the sinking funds and if the 1929 types to 20fr Pont Du Gard are right types as placed, many 1000s of euro here as well. Also seen 1930s 2 PEXIP M&U, the 10fr plane over globe green, the first airmails sets o/ps all parallel mint and used. Also noticed a superb EIPA perf-in used, the 50fr plane over Paris and the 50fr banknote, ending with lots of good back of the book, the affranchis, F.M. o/p types, early Postes Paris '1920 - 22' o/ps, etc, etc. We project a catalogue well in excess of €60,000, however the condition in the classics is mixed, as to be expected with some superb present as well. A real opportunity to buy a collector's collection loaded with seldom seen material. A joy to view, much more here to discover, spending time on this is highly recommended. Show less

As far as we can see virtually everything is here for the period in good quality. Some of the highlights include the various WW2 definitives, as well as unlisted 'R.F.' Petain o/p issues, similarly se-tenant strips of the same, again superb MNH and used, good postage dues, as well as further unlisted during WW2. Then the regular issues of France from mid 1945 onwards, nearly everything you would expect again with the used hidden behind the mint, through to the good early sets of the 1950s on to every other decade inc useful 'affranchis', large m/s of the rocket for Philatec, strong in defins and coils as well, as is similarly the case with the postage dues, etc. Just a great collection of this period, spanning 46 years, no doubt a very substantial catalogue. The gamut of condition here and it is not presented in alphabetical order and sometimes needs work. Highlights inc NGC with dozens of stamps, very attractive 3 pages with coloured postmarks, straightlines, all denominations, then follows Saxony to the left and right side profiles, again both by the dozens with values to 5ngr, next is Wurttemberg from various imperfs and a subsequent range of definitives, then Hannover shields and profile issues, followed by Baden shields and far more in the coat of arms types, mostly used, again all looking very impressive. Next follows New Brunswick with the running horse both perf and imperf, then Prussia with two dozen or so imperfs, loads of shield issues here, as well as Thurn and Taxis, with many better stamps, virtually all used, other areas inc Bergerdorf through to Hamburg, the German States finally ending with Oldenburg, imperfs Bavaria, etc, etc. There is also a very good German Empire with at least 75+ examples in both categories of dual currencies first issues to research. Used. 3 substantial albums, all written up, with as far as we can see virtually every town and village for this region, there must be around 500 stamps per album, from a collection formed 75 years ago, so about 1500 stamps. One album with the Hindenburg heads overprints represents Achenheim to Mothern, the second album of the same type from Muenster through to Zabern/Zillusheim and then the third album with various Hitler heads, ending with various bahnposts. Please note that everything is on piece in uniformly excellent condition as well as , occasional multiples present. To form a collection like this today would be difficult, so comprehensive that it would almost be impossible. Furthermore, many of these German name smaller towns/villages no longer exist today. The printing numbers are extremely low and were personally given to Major Carter, the British Officer who accompanied Zervas for conference talks with General Sir Henry Wilson in Caserta. There are eight stamps all in all, the first cover having the mauve fancy cancel for a liberated Greece, and the second cover, very slightly soiled with a double concentric circle, black pmk of a Greek town, probably Caserta. The most exquisite mint and used collection of this WW2 Occupation that we have had the pleasure to offer, housed in a large philatelic album with about 1000 stamps or so, all one of a kind. Each Malayan State is represented, as well as the general occupation issues, each section is also accompanied by maps and diagrams to incorporate the Japanese takeover of the various postal services. Beginning with Kedah, a fairly comprehensive range inc 1943 high values, Kelantan with lots of Sunagawa seals, as well as overprints in black and red with much desirable back of the book unlisted, probably revenues. Then Penang with Okugawa seals on the Straits Settlements stamps, similarly with the Uchiburi seals, Dai Nippon etc. Then extensive Perak, followed by Trengganu not only with the Dai Nippon, also the Kanji o/ps and the scarce Trengganu overprints on Straits Settlements, etc, then on Negri Sembilan. Next section is Pahang again with much substance, as well as Perak, followed by Pahang with the red and black o/ps, single chops frame through to the Dai Nippon, Kanji, etc, leading to Selangor inc those issued for general use of 1942, through to the violet and brown o/ps + blocks of 6, as well as used on piece etc of the Exhibition, leading to the revalued overprints on Selangor through to NS with the April 1942 black and red o/ps, chops galore, inc violet and brown overprints, then Malacca with 2 blocks of 4 KGVI 8cts and 50cts in red that would benefit from certificates, on to Johore postage dues, etc. Finally, the general Occupation ending with Straits Settlements, page after page with much completion, as well as good ranges of Japan used in Malaya, the red cross issues and much more. There will be occasional forged o/ps, as to be expected in such a wide ranging collection of the Japanese Occupation, however they will be in the minority and a catalogue on genuine alone will be six figures in Stanley Gibbons. A lifetime's collection by a former police chief in Malaysia, you hardly ever see collections like this on the market today, offered intact as received, an opportunity for the specialist, dealer or collector. Korea. Mostly ★. An old time accumulation primarily mint that has not seen the light of day since 1969. It is accompanied by a typewriter inventory that discloses a catalogue value then of 28,345 DM. There are also seen miniature sheets. Regrettably, the presentation is somewhat disorderly, as this was sent to us in a box to save postage, when it was originally housed chronologically in a stockbook! However, all the envelopes are with the appropriate catalogue markings identifiers, as well as price of that day, and could be re-assembled in order. A random cross referencing shows occasionally stamps up to 10 or so of each, as listed in the inventory, with useful defins as well as commems including key values. The minimum catalogue value today should be between $20–30,000+++. Lots of work here, yet will pay off handsomely for a dealer. Show less

Remarkable collection from the first Hejaz issues, unframed Hashimite o/ps, zig zags through to the framed issues incl. errors, similarly 1922 types, ending with the postage dues incl. inv. o/p, etc. This sections ends with 1922/1923 with handstamp o/ps and not forgetting the gold o/ps of 1924, again extensive and interesting. Then follows the Jeddah 2 line o/ps, further zig zags on to further postage dues and the 3 line red o/p types, incl. inverted as well as normal, the black o/ps, also present to high values. Similarly so with the blue ops to 10Pi and yet again the 3rd prov and the rectangular control issues with dozens here, looking very impressive. The next section just as good with Nejd, namely the occupation stamps of Hejaz, not just the regular defin o/ps but also the fiscals ad bill stamps, the good railway tax stamps, etc. Finally Ottoman overprint issues Mustahiq black and commemorative handstamp railway issues to 1000PI o/ps, on to 1926 blocks of 4, pans-Islamic conference 1927 types and the Annexation issue again complete on to British Mandate Terriorty, etc, etc. A wonderful collection, much more than this outline description, with many hardly ever seen issues and much unlisted that will delight the specialist. Extraordinary would be an understatement of this collection, beginning with the 1867 interpostals Gedda, types A and B for both dies, two of the scarcest of the interpostal issues, followed by 1885 used in Jeddah with GB embossed coat of arms and probably unique strips of four of the 1 shilling embossed. Also noted the 6d o/p, as well as the 2/6d yet again including some handwritten date stamps from De la Rue, virtually all in good condition. The collection ends with ‘flat rate’ currency stamps in different shades, perf. 11 1/2 typograph 1920/21. Mostly used A very well presented collection in 3 albums of the 1865 to 1892 Duloz design Crescent and Star issues, one album being the mint issues to 5pi with a wonderful range providing various shades and perforations, blocks of 4 and pairs, both Paris and Constantinople printings and with further work to be done separating the different types of Arabic overprints, the 1876 surcharges include a block of 4 of the 5 Pres on 5pi, then a further two albums with the corresponding used issues, also with pairs and blocks, again having shades, perfs and overprint types to work on, but with the additional appeal of the postmarks, ranging from cds's, bilingual types, Arabic cancels both circular and boxed rectangular, negative seals and more, some of which have been identified, but providing a fantastic opportunity to spot furthermore of the elusive Holyland locations. With over 1150 stamps, 2/3rds of which are used, this collection will not disappoint the eagle eyed researcher. Mixed quality. Show less

Turkey. Mostly used A truly wonderful collection of the elusive "back of the book" material, seldom seen as not well listed in the mainstream catalogues, very well written up in one album. It commences with ranges from 1898 Eastern Telegraph Co. 10pa revenue stamps, then duplicated sets of mint and used 1898 Thessaly octagonal Military stamps, the 1866 LiannosConstantinople Local Post labels (a few forgeries identified), with blocks of 8 and of 20 included together with singes, various bisects with overprints and surcharges, and a selection of different Kachak Contraband precancels. There is then an excellent study of the Sehir Local Post overprints FU on a very impressive range of over 200 Duloz "Star and Crescent" issue stamps, also 29 of the very difficult Mount Athos ovpts. A very seldom offered aspect of Ottoman philately. This is highly recommended for the specialist collector or dealer, wishing to broaden their horizons with the unusual. An excellent study of the Empire issue 1876-1890 Crescent type, with parallel collections both mint and used in two albums, beautifully presented, including both the postage and p.dues, having vals from the 5pa to 5pi in various colours and with a useful range of shades, some on thin paper, with different perforations noted, a few pairs, much interest in the wide range of postmarks with cancels in black and in blue, both Arabic and bilingual cancels which would prove fascinating to study for the various "used in Holyland" locations, negative seal types, boxed cancels, lozenge types and many different cds's, perfect to expand on and to find some hidden gems. The mint is virtually all superb MNH and the used all sound. Nearly everything has catalogue numbers and while, strictly speaking, not in absolute chronological order, it is clear that the catalogue potential runs into many 1000s of euro including back of the book. So many different topics here, as well, making it not only suitable for any dealer of the Middle East, also ideal for the thematic collector or dealer. There is much tough to find material here, often ludicrously low in the catalogue. Viewing is a must in order to appreciate the huge potential among the 1000s of sets present. Show less

U.S.A. Mostly used. Good old fashioned collection with particular strength in the classics from imperf onwards, overwhelmingly used. Highlights include 1857/60/62 defins including various denominations to 30 cts Franklin, as well 15 cts Lincoln, 24 cts Washington and similarly 12 cts black with and without grills. Then the 1869 to 30 cts, 1870/71 with various denominations to 90 cts Perry, similarly the same 1873 to 90 cts Perry as well as 1879 again to 90 cts Perry, ending with the 90 cts Perry mauve of 1887/88, onto the small 90 cts Perry orange of 1890/1898, making an impressive range although the condition as to be expected is mixed. Then turn of the century defins to $1 Perry black, similarly to $2 Madison, etc., the commems are also strong with Columbus to 50 cts, followed by the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Omahas to $2 complete, leading onto turn of the century commems complete inc. Pan-Ams, Louisiana Purchase, Jamestown etc. Also noticed in the 20th cent a good range of Washington/Franklin heads, again with various types to $2, Indian Heads to $5, etc. Airmails with the first two sets complete, 6/16/24 cents complete and back of the book through to mint eagles high values, etc. A collection that gets better and better on each close inspection, all housed in a battered album from the good old days, viewing highly recommended.
