Cederström became a lieutenant at the Svea Life Guards in 1805, participated in the Pomeranian campaign 1805–1806, served in the Western Army during the 1808 war. He became a major in the army and chief adjutant in 1809 and participated in the German, Danish and Norwegian campaigns 1813–1814. Cederström became colonel in the army in 1814 and was governor and military commander on Gotland 1817–1831.
