Collection begins with 5cts New York Washington 4 margined, manuscript and postmark cancel, then 1846 Providence 10cts unused with 4 margins - the 5cts with letter on reverse - through to the general issues with superb used 1847 #1 the 5ct Washington 4 margined and 10cts unused 4 margins this being the bluish paper, a rare stamp,. Then a range of Franklin, Washington and Jefferson issues through to 1861 inc a superb used Scott #30a with light red pmk, 1861/62 issues through to 30cts, as well as mint specimen of the same. Further highlights inc unused 1861/66 5c Jefferson #75 as well as superb mint 15cts Lincoln #77, these two stamps alone cat over $5000, also the 24cts #78, through to grill issues types and E and F to research, followed by 1869s to 30cts inc 3cts and 10cts unused and a superb MNH 2cts with grill. Then 1870/71 without grills 1ct to 24cts, huge potential here, through to the 'secret marks' of 1873 various values to 15cts inc unused 10cts, similarly 1879 soft porous papers through to 30cts and mint 1, 3 and 10cts 1881/82 through to the 1887/88s inc 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5cts mint, leading on to the 1890/93 values to 90cts, not forgetting a few proofs, through to the Columbians through to $1 (*), Omahas mint to 50cts, as well as 2x plate number pairs, on to 1895 defins to $1 and 1898s inc both type as well as MNH imprint pairs. The 20th century strong with pan-Am complete mint, 1903/defins to $1 mint then imperf pairs 1906/08 + Schermacks, followed by the main Washington head set complete mint to $1, the high value signed cat $1200, then the perf 12s to 10cts mint 1908/09, followed by the imperfs complete and lots of complicated coils vertically and horizontally, different perf types from 1908 onwards, occasionally in pairs with certificates incorporated into the collection. Then the more obvious pan-Pacific complete mint both perfs 12 and 10 with shades Scott #397/404, cat $1000, also noticed block of 4x Kansas City rouletted, yet many more coil pairs inviting research, followed by the $2 Madison and $5 Marshall mint, the 1917/19 to $1 mint, the 2cts 5cts error block of 6x MNH, the $2 and $5 Franklin heads mint 1918/20, etc. Other areas include then various offset printings through to 1922/26 complete to $5 inc #595 MNH with certificate and so it goes on, all the commems sets, rotary press set defins complete, White Plains miniature sheet again MNH, the Kansas and Nebraska both complete mint, set etc, etc. An outstanding collection and opportunity. Then follows the US Administration o/ps complete #4-#8 cat$460, similarly the maps #9 to #13 complete inc the 5cts with double overprint on Panama, Scott #12d cat $1100, almost imperceptibly hinged and a rare stamp very seldom seen. Then #14 yet more maps with a further study of the o/ps inc Scott 'B' numbers as well as 'A' - this is all on the first page which alone cats a very minimum of $2500. Then the Cordoba / Balboa types. 1906/7, then 1909, 1909/10 as well as ABN punched hole specimens x10, all different mint never hinged. More map o/ps followed by the 1915 pictorials complete and a nearly complete study range of all defins 1915/21 inc #52 - #54, #55-#57, #58 - #59, #60-#66, just these alone cat $1300. Then follows 1924/25 USA defins o/ps complete, #70-#81, the top value $1 being superb MNH, followed by 1925/26 again complete to $1, etc this page too catalogues over $1000. The collection unfolds with 1921/31 rotary complete with both perf types, followed by mint and pre cancels 1928/30, 1939 pictorials complete through comprehensive issues 1940s to 1975. Then a new section on back of the book inc airposts complete with varieties #C1 through #C20, similarly so with airmail sets of the 1950s/60, then the officials with 1941 to $1 complete MNH #CO1 - #CO7 inc postage dues #J1 and #J2, #J3 unusual used, #J4-#J6 mint inc key 2cts red o/p #J7-#J9 complete, further postage dues 1924, #J12 - #J14 complete ,#J18 to #J20 complete, all MNH through to 1925, 1929/30, 1932/41 all complete, as well as official seals #OX3 and #OX4 and further back of the book and unlisted. Utomnorden omfattar samlingar som täcker ett land eller ett geografiskt område. I detta kan man även inkludera eventuella tidigare kolonier eller förvaltarskapsområden. Detta gäller främst Belgien, Frankrike, Italien, Nederländerna, Portugal, Spanien, Storbritannien och USA. Här inkluderas även särskilda ockupationsutgåvor med anknytning till 1. och 2. världskriget.

Ryssland/Sovjetunionen fram till 1991 innehåller en mängd intressanta samlingsområden, främst från perioden 1917-1923 med revolution, inbördeskrig och konsolidering av Sovjetunionen. På motsvarande sätt finns det ett antal samlingsområden inom Kina från början av 1900-talet till våra dagar (många handelsstationer, kristna missionsstationer, inbördeskrig, japansk ockupation mm).

Generellt kan sägas att länder med komplex politisk historia också erbjuder stora möjligheter beträffande frimärken, brev och försändelser. Många länder har därutöver särskilda utgåvor för paketpost, telegraftjänster, myndighetsbrev, internationella organisationer som finns i landet eller har verkat i landet etc.

Phileas auktioner har alltid ett särskilt avsnitt ”Utomnorden” och ett avsnitt ”Utomeuropa”. Här finns det möjligheter att göra riktiga fynd. Phileas stora internationella kundkrets gör också att vi når fram till köpare över hela världen.

En samling kan bestå av ostämplade (postfriska) frimärken, stämplade frimärken eller en blandning. De kan fokuseras på en viss tidsperiod (exvis fram till 1920, eller mellankrigstiden), ett geografiskt område (exvis länderna på Balkan innan Jugoslavien skapades), ett särskilt tema (CEPT, internationella konferenser) eller omfatta alla utgivna frimärken.

En brevsamling kan utformas på en mängd olika sätt. Brev som har koppling till en kädn person eller familj eller kopplade till en viss plats (trakt) kan vara intressanta, liksom brev som censurerats. Brev med någon militär anknytning (fältpost, krigsfångepost, censurbrev) är det många som intresserar sig för. Brev till utrikes destinationer (särskilt från andra halvan av 1800-talet) kan vara eftersökta. Här finns det intressanta objekt ända tillbaka till 1500-talet, d v s långt före ”frimärkstid”.

Helsaker är ett särskilt samlingsområde nästan oavsett vilket land man samlar. En helsak är ett kort eller ett kuvert där en tryckt värdestämpel ersätter frimärket. Det finns en mängd olika helsaker och många gånger finns det olika slags varianter som uppkommit vid tryckningen. Helsaker kan, med fördel, också ingå i en posthistorisk samling.

Vykort kan samlas på en mängd olika sätt. En trakt eller ort, en del av en trakt/ort, ett tema (exvis reklam på vykort, politisk propaganda på vykort, båtar på vykort, kort skapade av viss konstnär) eller kort med motiv kopplat till en viss helg är olika sätt att samla.
